General Manager, New Zealand

Alison has worked in the New Zealand travel industry for over 25 years, gaining extensive experience with positions in the retail, tour wholesale and airline sectors. Another 11 years were spent in the UK travel industry, including time with a large travel membership organisation handling bespoke itineraries for the discerning traveller.

After completing her Business Management degree, Alison was keen to join a company with values similar to her own, and Golden Compass Tours offered her this opportunity. Alison really enjoys assisting the mature, active traveller in getting the most from their journeys with a particular emphasis on the educational, social, inspirational and fun aspect of travel with like-minded participants. She is looking forward to planning new tours under the Travelworks name and carrying on the friendly, competent service that Jenny & Ralph have offered in the past.

With the rapid expansion of Golden Compass Tours, Kerry was appointed General Manager, Australia in July 2014. 

Kerry brings a diverse range of expertise and experience having held senior management roles in the travel and tourism sector for the past 18 years.

Raised in Wollongong, Kerry holds a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Accountancy and Legal Studies from the University of Wollongong. He also holds CPA status with the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants. 

Kerry has travelled extensively throughout the UK, Europe, Asia and North America. 

His wife Vi also has a background in the tourism industry. They live in Wollongong and have a young son, Daniel.

Mark Goodwin has been in the travel profession for over 30 years, first as a tour guide, then rose to Director of operations with SAGA Holidays, the UK's leading tour operator for the senior market, as Commercial Director with Rank Education, one of Britain's leading educational operators, as Director of Operations with the Travel Organisation, the UK's leading conference and incentive Operator and the last 16 years as President and CEO of Golden Compass. Over 20 years of his career have been involved with the educational Group Travel Market.

Mark is double Hons graduate from Kings College London in Modern Languages – French and German, an Associate of Kings College (Divinity) and a Fellow of the Institute of Travel & Tourism as well as a past Member of the Institute of Directors.

He has taught in France as well as spending significant periods of time in Germany, Italy and Austria as well as traveling extensively through almost all of Europe and North Africa. Mark first led the Balkan Discovery tour in 2015.

Ralph and Jenny Levinson
Ralph and Jennifer Levinson

Ralph and Jenny met while working for Contiki Travel, taking tours to Europe, Scandinavia and the former Soviet Union during the mid-1970s. They returned to New Zealand and married in 1977. After working for inbound/outbound wholesaler, Atlantic & Pacific Travel, they formed specialist inbound operator, Landmark Travel. From the foundation of Travelworks NZ Ltd in 1988, Ralph and Jenny have set up and operated over 200 tours to a variety of destinations. Tours have largely catered for the mature market as well as inbound incentive groups such as Ford of Canada, Iveco Trucks, international conferences (of over 1,000 delegates) and specialist inbound tours, such as motorcycle tours, sporting groups, educational tours and retail travel. Ralph and Jenny have now decided to retire but will be involved in the setting up of the traditional Travelworks products for Golden Compass.

Golden Compass was founded in 1995 in leafy Amersham in the UK by Mark and Caroline Goodwin and has been successfully operating for over 20 years.

Mark Goodwin has been in the travel profession for over 30 years, first as a tour guide, then rising to Director of operations with SAGA Holidays, the UK's leading tour operator for the senior market, as Commercial Director with Rank Education, one of Britain's leading educational operators, as Director of Operations with the Travel Organisation, the UK's leading conference and incentive operator and, most recently, for the last 22 years as President and CEO of Golden Compass, until his recent retirement in December 2017. Over 25 years of his career have been involved with the educational Group Travel Market.

Golden Compass in New Zealand is led by Alison Dale, who has also held senior roles in organising education travel for more than 20 years and in Australia by Kerry Kyriacou, who has held senior roles in educational travel for over 20 years.
