Tour Overview

The great cities of the Hapsburgs were the golden trio of Vienna, Prague and Budapest, which influenced not only the body politic but also the awesome outpouring of creativity from composers such as Mozart, Haydn, Liszt and Dvorak to Smetena, Bartok and Janacek. We also consider the great works of art and outstanding architectural heritage of these cities, as well as the impressive Bavarian capital, Munich

We listen to some of the great music of these cities and we also view the outstanding artworks held in their galleries. Prague is considered the jewel in the Hapsburg crown with its UNESCO listed architecture. We explore Budapest’s great Neo-Gothic buildings, as well as the Neo-Classical splendours of Vienna. We also discover the Slovak capital, Bratislava, another of the great, elegant Hapsburg cities, with a charming mediaeval old town dominated by a hill- top castle overlooking the Danube, as well as staying in the charming Austrian lakes to visit elegant Salzburg and attending a performance at the world-famous Passion Play in the Bavarian village of Oberammergau.

Easy

Most of the cities and towns visited on this program can be explored by coach, where walking tours are relatively short and generally on the flat and all hotels have lifts with easily accessible rooms.
All our programs naturally involve some walking in order to discover better the places visited and, although we arrange porterage where this is available, participants are expected to be able to handle their own bags. Our program leaders will always try to make as much of the program as possible available for those who find walking longer distances, uphill or down steps difficult but, in same places, this cannot always be avoided.

If you have any concerns at all about your level of fitness, please do not hesitate to talk to us and discuss further with the experts who know the particular demands of each program.
