Tour Overview

Explore a region of vast horizons, ancient gorges, weird rock formations, welcoming rock pools and even a horizontal waterfall on a soft-adventure, small group safari aboard a purpose built 6WD tour vehicle.

We commence our journey in the pearling capital of Australia, Broome, also the western gateway to the spectacular Kimberley wilderness. View the Buccaneer Archipelago and Cape Leveque from the comfort of a seaplane. Descend into the calm waters of Talbot Bay and enjoy breakfast on a luxury houseboat.

In the west Kimberley, we’ll cruise the Fitzroy River at Geikie Gorge National Park. We walk through Western Australia’s oldest cave system at Tunnel Creek and visit Windjana Gorge National Park with water-streaked walls that rise to heights of 100 metres. Deeper into the vast and remote Kimberley region, we cruise Lake Argyle, Australia’s largest man-made lake. We walk through the towering orange and black domes of the Bungle Bungle Range in World Heritage listed Purnululu National Park (Bungle Bungles), marvel at the fiery red Cockburn Ranges at El Questro Wilderness Park and take easy walks and swim in the turquoise waterhole at Emma Gorge and dip into the thermal pools set amongst palm trees at Zebedee Springs. We experience the breathtaking scenery of the north-central Kimberley region with a full day’s tour to the majestic four-tiered Mitchell Falls by 4WD, hiking, by helicopter and return scenic flight to Kununurra.

In the Katherine region of the Northern Territory, we take in the grandeur of rugged sandstone cliffs, dramatic waterfalls and lush rainforest at the spectacular Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge) National Park. We’ll cruise the gorges carved over millions of years and learn its secrets through the eyes of the traditional Aboriginal owners, the Jawoyn people.

This is a true outback adventure with indigenous experiences, whilst staying in comfortable en-suite accommodation.

David Mobbs

David Mobbs is a Territorian, with 30 years of tour guiding experience. He grew up on cattle stations and in Aboriginal communities and gained a respect and understanding of the land and culture from an early age. He was one of the first to lead Kakadu tours, had 4 years guiding in Central Australia and has been taking Kimberley safaris to the region for over 25 years, so he’s likely to be the most experienced guide in Northern Australia. With extensive knowledge in Aboriginal rock art and culture, bush tucker, flora, fauna, natural history and geology, David has assisted in the making of several documentary programs, including ‘The World Around Us’ on such networks as CNN and the BBC. He has also been an advisor for several books on the Top End.

This program includes places which can only be explored on foot and where walking tours may be a little longer and not always on the flat. Accommodation may have some stairs and or have some rooms which may involve some walking to access.
All our programs naturally involve some walking in order to discover better the places visited and, although we arrange porterage where this is available, participants are expected to be able to handle their own bags. Our program leaders will always try to make as much of the program as possible available for those who find walking longer distances, uphill or down steps difficult but, in same places, this cannot always be avoided.
If you have any concerns at all about your level of fitness, please do not hesitate to talk to us and discuss further with the experts who know the particular demands of each program.
